The examination
Our optometrist checks your vision, your prescription and the health of your eyes, inside and out. Patients call it “very comprehensive and thorough”, with a “cracking sense of humour”.
Your results, explained
You leave understanding what was found and what, if anything, you need. No lens upgrades you did not ask for.

Repairs and emergencies
Sat on your glasses? We repair on the spot where we can. One patient was “able to drive the following day”.
Patients say
Seen as a person, not a number
“I had no idea that a greater field of vision than my existing lenses was even an option, or that technology to measure my frame and lenses to fit so accurately existed.”
“For the first time in many years I have a pair of glasses that fit my face, look nice and do the job of helping me see properly. I was seen as a person, not just a customer.”
“Gavin repaired my severely damaged glasses after I sat on them. He saved the day, I was able to drive the following day for an important assessment.”
Common questions
Eye tests, answered
How much is an eye test?
Private eye examinations are charged; NHS sight tests are free if you qualify. Ask when you book and we will tell you which applies to you.
Am I entitled to a free NHS eye test?
You are if you are over 60, under 16 (or under 19 in full-time education), diabetic, have glaucoma or a close relative with it, are registered blind or partially sighted, or receive certain benefits. We will check for you.
How long does the examination take?
Allow around 30 minutes. We do not rush it.
What does the eye test check?
Your vision and prescription, the health of the front and back of your eyes, eye pressure where appropriate, and how your eyes work together. You get a clear explanation, not a sales pitch.
Do I have to buy glasses from you?
No. You are given your prescription and are free to take it anywhere. Most people stay because of the fitting and the frames.
